Nissho did not have a room he could call a studio at the time, so he made this painting from the photo of another artist’s studio found in an art magazine—a scene that he obviously relished having as his own. The plentiful use of bright primary colors is a stark contrast to the monochromatic tone of his early works. The interior scene, with colorful paint smudges even on the walls and floor, speaks to Nissho’s strong interest in and awakening passion for color.
